I was wondering how long it would take someone to ask how I'm going that. Here's how: I wrote a littlw utility that grabs the server statistics webpage. That page lists all the IP address that are connected to the server at any one time. The utility parses out all the unique address to get the number of viewers. Then it creates a jpg based on that information and saves it in a folder every few seconds. Finally, I have the webcam software alpha-blend the jpg into the video stream. A tad complicated, but it works. Most Chumbys owners don't realize that my fishcam is interactive. If you actually go to my website, www.picobay.com/fishcam , you can control the camera angle AND control the alligator. The alligator used to be so fast that sometimes people actually caught fish with it! I've slowed it down a little since then. Unfortunately, those controls don't show up on a chumby. I attemped to contact, Stro, the author of this widget about adding that functionality on the Chumby, but he never replied. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy my fishcam! Jason Winters

he posted this on his site if u didn't see.... No more viewer stats? Some of you have noticed that the viewer stat is gone from the corner of the fishcam video feed. Because of the popularity of my fishcam widget with Chumby owners, I had to switch to faster server software. The old server would start to hang after it got hit with more than 10 viewers. The new server can get fishcam images to many, many more people simultaneously. Unfortunately, the new server isn't capable of displaying the viewer count like the old server. I enjoyed the viewer count as well. It was a nice way of measuring the load on the server and popularity of my fishcam.

Great names! How do you get the number of viewers?
