@evade - if someone could write a widget that fetches directly from the pages on the Bureau of Meterology site, the metro updates on there are accurate and updated about every 10 minutes or so. That would be really cool. Would be a pretty big app to build though as there are lots of those weather stations. e.g. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDS60900.shtml

Hmm. Weather news isn't exactly what I was after. Has anybody found a weather widget which will correctly display weather for Australia? All of the US-based weather sites have limited support and do not convert every measurement in to metric. (See Wind speed for example, usually 'mph' even in "Celsius mode")
