Handling Your Chumby back to topics

How do I clean my chumby?

To clean the touchscreen:

  1. Dampen a clean, non-scratching cloth with water or with a mild glass cleaner that contains no alcohol or ammonia.
  2. Wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen.

To clean the housing: For chumbys with a leather housing, use a cleaner designed to be used on leather (there are a variety of commercially available leather cleaners). Avoid using colored cleaning clothes, as the dye in the fabric may transfer onto your chumby.

Why is the squeeze sensor stuck?

If the squeeze sensor at the top of the chumby is stuck or occasionally sticks, it could be because stuffing is pushing against it. Squeeze all around the top of your chumby to adjust the stuffing; this could relieve the pressure against the sensor. If you've removed and replaced any of the chumby's stuffing — even if it's in the very bottom of the chumby — make sure it isn't overstuffed.

Should chumby not be put near anything?

Shock hazard: Do not use it near open water sources.

The speakers are magnetic so don't put them next to your credit cards as they might get demagnetized. We also recommend that you do not put it directly on top of your computer (next to the computer is ok).

Can I open up the chumby?

You can, but that will void your warranty unless you've been instructed to do so by a representative of Chumby Industries (like during the course of troubleshooting a problem).

Would my child enjoy this plush chumby?

The chumby is not a toy and is intended for use by people over the age of 13.

Since the chumby has a soft housing, is it ok to drop?

Even though it's padded, it shouldn't be dropped. Treat it like you would treat other electronic devices (which is nicely, we hope!).
