motion sensor

Your chumby has a "motion sensor" (or "accelerometer"). When you pick up your chumby and move it around, the motion sensor detects the direction and speed of movement.

motion and widgets

Some of the widgets take advantage of the motion sensor. If you'd like to see a fun example, try the Chumball widget in the Games category. Because widgets are constantly being added, we don't have a list of all widgets that utilize the motion sensor. If a widget does incorporate it, the author of the widget will tell you how to make use of it.

using the top button to advance widgets

The motion sensor lets you easily change widgets without having to open the control panel. While your widget is playing a channel, hold the top button down.

Advancing widget, step 1

Tilt your chumby to the right. You should see a left and right arrow on the screen — the right arrow will be brighter. This means your chumby is advancing to the next widget.

Advancing widget, step 2

While still holding the squeeze sensor down, return your chumby to level position. To advance another widget, tilt it right again. You can also tilt your chumby to the left to return to the previous widget.

Advancing widget, step 3

Note: In order for the chumby to advance to the next widget, the current widget needs to have finished loading.

chumby classic versions

Wondering which chumby classic version you have? There are two versions: 2008 (hardware 3.7) and 2009 (hardware 3.8). You can tell the difference by looking at the buttons on the right side of the chumby:

You can also find your chumby's hardware version number by squeezing the top to open the control panel, tapping Settings, tapping chumby Info, and then looking at the version number after HW: (e.g., HW: 3.8).
