step-by-step custom alarm tutorial

The alarm wizard makes it easy to set up custom alarms. In this example, we'll create an alarm that plays a SHOUTcast station and the Default widget channel. To access the custom alarm feature, squeeze the top of the chumby, tap ALARMS and then tap CUSTOM ALARM.

1. Start a new alarm.

Tap NEW to start a new alarm.

2. Set the alarm schedule.

Tap Daily to highlight it and then tap NEXT.

3. Set the time.

Tap the up or down arrows to set the time to 7:00 am. Tap NEXT to continue.

4. Set the audio source.

Tap SHOUTcast to highlight it and then tap NEXT.

5. Select a station.

Use the up/down arrow on the right-hand side of the screen to scroll through the list of top 25 radio stations. Tap any station to highlight it and then tap SELECT to make it the current alarm. (If you're looking for a station that's not listed, tap the Search field in the upper right corner so you can enter a specific search term.) Tap NEXT to continue.

6. Set the alarm duration.

Tap the up arrow until the duration is 60 mins. and then tap NEXT.

7. Set the backup alarm.

The backup alarm is a "safety net" in case the alarm fails to sound for any reason. Tap the circle next to yes and then tap NEXT.

8. Set the delay time for the backup alarm.

Tap the down arrow until the duration is 2 mins. and then tap NEXT. This means that if you don't dismiss the alarm within two minutes of the time it was set to go off, the backup alarm—which is a very loud beep that's very hard to sleep through—will sound.

9. Set the snooze duration.

Tap the up arrow until the snooze duration is 10 mins. and then tap NEXT.

10. Set the action to occur after the alarm is dismissed.

Tap Play Default to highlight it. After you dismiss the alarm, the Default channel will start playing. Tap NEXT.

11. Rename the alarm.

Rename your alarm by tapping CLEAR and then typing Shoutcast wakeup on the virtual keyboard. Tap NEXT.

12. Review your settings.

The Alarm Info screen summarizes the settings for this alarm. Tap DONE.

13. Your custom alarm is set!

When you're done, you return to the Set Custom Alarms screen, where your alarm called "Shoutcast wakeup" is automatically set (the box will be checked off and it will be red). You can turn the alarm off by unchecking the box.
