encrypted network - WEP

Your chumby detected a wireless network that's probably WEP encrypted. Follow the instructions below to finish connecting to your wireless network.

Step 1. Enter the WEP hex digits.

Your WEP hex key will have either 10 or 26 characters consisting of the letters A-Z (case insensitive) or numbers 0-9. If you have other characters in your password, it's probably ASCII — you should check the manual for your access point to obtain the hex equivalent for your password.

If you do not enter exactly 10 or 26 characters, the OK button will not appear.

The hex key was determined during the set-up of your wireless network. If you don't know what your hex key is, you'll need to talk to the person who help you set up your wireless network. Unfortunately, there's no way for us to help you guess on this step (which is good, because your network is supposed to be secure from strangers!).

Enter the WEP Hex Digits screen

Step 2. Choose the IP allocation method.

Automatic: The majority of home set-ups use this automatic or "dynamic" method in which devices are automatically assigned an IP address upon start-up. (Like a guest at a hotel is assigned a room number for a certain amount of time, each dynamic network is assigned an IP address for a certain amount of time. The fact that the IP addresss may change is no problem, just as long as your chumby knows this might happen.) Most home networks are set up to use automatic IP allocation.

Manual: Choose this if you're using a static IP address. You'll be prompted to enter the additional required information. If you know very little about your wireless set-up, it's doubtful you'll need to select this option. Details on manual IP allocation.

Step 3. Confirm settings.

The "Confirm settings" screen shows the information for the network you selected (the information shown on the screen will depend on your set-up). Tap OK to continue or Back to make any changes.

Step 4. Finish connection.

If you successfully connect to the network, you'll see the "Network connection succeeded" screen — you're connected and ready to go! Tap Done to finish.
